Organized by the Education Department of Hainan Province, the 5th Qiongzhou Cup for International Students' Chinese Language and Talent Contest was held in Hainan University on November 19th, 2016. Nine universities and colleges in Hainan took part in the competition. Zhang Chao, Director of International Exchange & Cooperation Dept. of EDH, and heads in charge of international education from other universities attended the event. After about 5-hours of intense competition, KOKHANOVICH LAURA, the international student from Kazakhstan, got the first prize. This is the fourth time for our university to win the first prize for four consecutive years. Meanwhile, Nana Chen, teacher from the International Department of Sanya University, got the Outstanding Instructor Award and another international student, PROKOPENKO VITALII from Russia, won the third prize in the competition. These awards definitely demonstrate our international students’ Chinese language skills and talents, and also show our university’s educational internationalization and strength.

In recent years, with the increasing development of Hainan’s international education a great many international students have come to study at Hainan’s higher educational institutes. The Qiongzhou Cup for International Students’ Chinese Language and Talent Contest has been held for five years consecutively, aiming to promote the multicultural exchange at home and abroad and assisting more international students to become "a massager and envoy of friendship in the dissemination of culture". Twenty-six contestants from Russia, Nepal, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Vietnam etc. from Hainan University, Hainan Normal University, Hainan Medical University, Hainan Tropical Ocean University, Sanya University, etc. reached the finals. The contest included three parts: Chinese Language Skill Display, Chinese Talent Show and Native Culture Show.

Contestants were versatile and dedicated to their performance by presenting audiences Chinese Kongfu, dance, song, Chinese calligraphy and recital of Chinese poetry, in which they showed their enthusiasm and pursuit for Chinese language and culture. KOKHANOVICH LAURA, the Kazakhstan student, impressed the audiences with her skillful and exciting dance in the Chinese Talent and Native Culture Show, as well as showing her very good command of Chinese language in her speech “Hainan in Maritime Silk Road, My Chinese Dream” in the first part of Chinese Language Skill Display. PROKOPENKO VITALII brought the audiences the passionate speech “Beautiful Hainan, the Pivot of Maritime Silk Road” and won great praises through his comprehensive performance.

In recent years more and more international students have come to study in Sanya University as part of the increasing promotion of the international cooperation between our university and other universities abroad. In October and November, we have welcomed international students from Czech Republic and Pakistan for their one-month short term study in Sanya University. As part of our culture exchange activities, Pakistan students also went to Haikou to watch the competition, encouraging our contestants as well as communicating with other international students in other universities.

In addition, the university also continues to expand the channels of international education and the globalization of higher education innovation collaboration platform. During the on-site visit to No. 9 Primary School, international students, majoring in education from Palacky University of Czech Republic communicated and exchanged the education philosophy with the teachers and also involved into the English class with the students there. All these have witnessed the continuous improvement of Sanya University’s educational internationalization level.
