Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., President, St. John’s University, and Lu Dan, Ph.D., President, Sanya University, Hainan, China, signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 9 in Queens to officially begin an academic partnership that will benefit students from both higher education institutions.
Sanya University is an undergraduate university in China’s Hainan province, located on an island in the South China Sea. The university is comprised of 16 schools of academic learning. Sanya University has a student population of more than 25,000. St. John’s enrolls more than 20,000 and has a diverse enrollment from 47 states and 123 countries.

The Sanya University Delegation, hosted by Dr. Gempesaw, met with senior administrators, deans and faculty during their three-day visit to New York.
